The key operators of The Hanmer Arms bring
with them a wealth of experience. Geoff and Gill Leigh-Ford have
successfully owned and run many businesses in the hospitality sector.
Originally from South Manchester, they have tested their entrepreneurial
skills far and wide including Cheshire, Val D’Iseres, Paris, Devon, the
Greek Islands and the depths of Wales. Geoff spent his younger days
acquiring his skills in some fine establishments including The Midland
in Manchester, Le Grand Vefour in Paris, Vichy, Gleneagles and Tregenna
Castle in St Ives. Some famous customers helped him learn his craft such
as the Duke of Windsor in Paris, members of the French Government and
also Prince Phillip, during his training at The Midland in Manchester.
Gill qualified in Business
Studies and for her sins, is always to be
found amongst a pile of paperwork, in the depths of the office but also
likes to be amongst the hubbub of the “fun”. Gill has worked with Geoff
for the last 18 years, meeting him one evening in one of his restaurants
in Prestbury, Cheshire, where he was a well known “lively” character.
For reasons better known to herself, she has stayed with him ever since,
working in the far flung places as mentioned before, keeping Geoff on
the straight and narrow...
Jo Down
has recently joined the team at The Hanmer Arms Hotel as Manager - he
hails from Vancouver Island where service in the hospitality industry is
always "awesome".....we are very much looking forward to Jo bringing his
Canadian expertise to The Hanmer Arms where friendliness and customer
care are key qualities......Jo has an abundance of those on offer! We
are now moving , with Jo, onto our second year of trading and look
forward to sharing even more success with him on board.
We have a great
new team of chefs which we are very fortunate to have found, headed by
Ian Beech. His experience ranges from being one of the
prestigious Personal Team of Chefs based in Corfu, where he was hired by
the exclusive and well known CV Villa group, to six years spent in
Verbier again being chosen again as a personal chef for ski enthusiasts
holidaying in the beautiful surroundings of Switzerland. Now Ian is
home to settle, rising to the challenge of The Hanmer Arms and
concentrating on producing a varied menu with superb food using local
fresh ingredients.
Alongside Ian is his great friend Ian Bowyer (known as JJ) who also has
extensive experience in France and creates some wicked puddings. A
lively bubbly character, he is a great joy to have in our team.
Toni Marie Rissborough is the long suffering female in the kitchen, who
keeps the other two males in order, and again brings with her a wealth
of experience having worked in some far flung and good quality
establishments throughout the UK.
We look forward to our second year with great enthusiasm, watching
the good standards we already have set at The Hanmer Arms, improve to an
even higher level of presentation and taste, but yet still
being extremely good value
We are very proud to have a great team of staff at The Hanmer Arms which
includes many local young people and we all welcome the opportunity of
creating a very happy hostelry for everyone to enjoy.
